Graf Hilgenhurst, M.D. recently testified
before the Tennessee Senate Subcommittee on Welfare, Health and
Human Resources in support of SB #1935, which would require
physician supervision of mid-level providers, such as nurses and
physician assistants, when performing pain management
procedures.
Dr. Hilgenhurst, who is president of the Tennessee Society of
Interventional Pain Physicians, stated that, "There is a small but
real risk of doing serious harm to a patient."
The debate over just who should be allowed to treat pain by
injecting medicine near the spine was the focus of an article on
NPR recently. Here is the link: Proposal Would Mark Line Between
Pain Doctors, Mid-Level Providers.
Dr. Hilgenhurst is Board Certified in Pain Management and
Anesthesiology. His practice, Precision Pain Care, is located in
Smyrna, TN.
